Harlem Renaissance Signifigance
During the 1890's blacks migrated North due to the new enacted Jim Crow Laws. These laws segregated blacks everywhere in anything in the South. Whites were very racist and created hate groups against blacks. When they moved North, they were not as welcomed as many assume, they were also hated upon and segregated in some areas. Though they moved North due to segregation, there were also new employment opportunities for Blacks and gave them a chance to create and be in a new society.
The Harlem Renaissance was a massive explosion of black writers, artists, composers, actors, singers, etc., that created new literature and culture for America. Jazz and Blues was created during this time and has broadened our musical genres today. Poems, books, and other forms of literature were also created by many intellectual and intelligent blacks who became famous authors, editors of newspapers, and speakers all around America. Artwork was also a major boom with many new styles of art being created and used that have been passed down through generations. There was also a variety of drama and theater art performances enacted that entertained thousands and millions of people. The Harlem Renaissance has added to not only America, but the entire world's culture from literature to the way we speak to art and has influenced so many people to pursue their happiness and dreams like all blacks did during this time period.
